Our Story
Kimberly Wright founded Future Tech Leaders to address the critical need for diversity in the technology sector. Throughout her career in Cybersecurity, she often found herself as the only Black person on her team, a reality that made the lack of diverse representation in tech all the more apparent. This experience, combined with the experience of her mother, an educator who deeply understood the importance of foundational skills in shaping a student’s future, sparked Kimberly’s drive to make a change. She recognized that the tech industry’s future depends on providing diverse opportunities for young people, particularly those from underrepresented communities, to engage with technology from an early age.
Future Tech Leaders is built upon the belief that early exposure to technology, especially in disciplines like coding and data analytics can transform how young people perceive careers in tech. By reaching students in elementary school, we aim to not only provide just technical skills, but also the confidence and sense of belonging that will enable them to envision themselves as the innovators of tomorrow. In a field where Black professionals are still vastly underrepresented, Kimberly understands that diverse voices are crucial to shaping a more inclusive, innovative future for technology.
Mission
To empower and inspire the next generation by providing access to technology, hands-on learning, and high quality tech education.
We believe every student should be able to learn computer science. We want to spark interest in students and cultivate a mindset that provokes critical thinking and problem solving. It is important that students understand they do not always have to be consumers of technology but can be innovators. Educating students about technology will allow them to embark on careers that increase their income and create more economic mobility.
Our Vision
A technology industry that reflects diversity where everyone is represented equally in all levels of technology.
